We are seeking Junior to Mid-Level environmental professionals with strong chemistry, geology and database skills (MS Access/SQL Server) to support the administration of our cutting-edge web-based environmental data and property management applications.

ESSENTIAL SKILL SET:

We are currently looking for a GIS Intern to join our Planning GIS team who can support the development and maintenance of our GIS system. The successful candidate will have the chance to gain hands-on experience to the many aspects of GIS in local government, including geodatabase development, data conversion, and cartography. This individual is a person who:

• Assists the Planning GIS section with various projects and production schedules using ESRI software and custom tools.

• Interprets information from recorded maps and other source documents.

• Reviews and verifies GIS digital files and related databases for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established formats.

• Uses GIS software to query location, relationships, trends, patterns, adjacency, containment, and proximity of non-complex features and data.

• Determines effective presentation of information and selects appropriate cartographic elements, including map projection, scale, color, shading, symbols, and additional elements such as images, graphs, tables, and overlays.

• Performs other job-related duties as required.

Note: This is a 20 hour per week position with no minimum number of hours guaranteed.

• Current enrollment in upper division or graduate level courses in GIS.

• The ability to distinguish unique colors and the ability to work with high screen resolutions for hours at a time.

• The willingness to be trained on software and custom tools and to use this training and skills on repetitive tasks.
