El Monte Area | GIS Technician

ArcMap Experience Job Description:
A downtown Los Angeles based utility company is looking for a GIS Technician.Qualified GIS Technicians should have the ability to read maps, 1 year experience with ArcGIS/ArcView, should understand the principles of Geographic Information Systems, should have a good database concept and should be comfortable and understand a table of attributes.On a day to day basis, the responsibilities will be to:- Read and interpret legacy maps and engineering drawings of Company facilities.- Draw or re-align pipelines appropriately in ArcMap software based on historical information.- Understand and manipulate digital land base data in ArcMap environment (i.e. GPS points, aerial photography, parcel lines, street centerlines, etc.).- Enter and manage data through database front-end and through raw tables. - Create custom and standard map products for internal and external use as requested.- Use ArcMap tools, wizards, and extensions to accomplish project objectives.Qualifications:- Understanding of GIS concepts and principles.- Ability to follow established procedure, but recognize when data does not make sense. - Extreme attention to detail. - Basic knowledge of ArcView, Microsoft Excel, Access and Oracle.Education:- Bachelors Degree in Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred.- Minimum 1 year of work experience with ArcMap software.- Previous utility or data management experience a plus.Candidates must be willing to submit to a background check and drug screen.
