Job Description
POSITION DEFINITION:Hydrogeologist/GIS Specialist Insures higher reliability of GSWC’s utilization of groundwater in the areas where GSWC serves and at the same time, advances the GSWC’s technical capability to the highest standard. Accountability The person in this position is accountable for initiating and conducting hydrological studies and related activities concerned with water resources. This includes, additional responsibilities for developing the framework for additional analysis through data collection and evaluation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Evaluates well losses and provides recommendations for preventative well maintenance to minimize lost well efficiency. •Assesses groundwater quality and quantity, and prepares plans to develop and optimally utilize the groundwater aquifers. •Proposes plans for water resources management and water sector improvement. •Conducts studies aimed at assisting decision makers in charge of water production and distribution in production planning and water conservation. •Conducts water resource studies, evaluating and modeling water supply issues. •Manages and analyzes data using statistical, relational database, hydrogeological modeling and GIS systems to analyze data and display results.
Required Skills
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education: •Bachelor’s Degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering or related discipline required. •Advanced degree a plus. •State of California Professional Geologist registration preferred Required Experience •Three to five years experience in geology or hydrogeology with modeling and extensive GIS experience. •The ability to develop and implement the water resource GIS system, perform hydrogeologic analysis and associated field work.
